Former President Fidel V. Ramos extends
strong support to ANCOP - Gawad Kalinga

Former Philippine President Fidel
V. Ramos leads by example by being a Gawad Kalinga (GK) Hero himself
donating US$50,000 to ANCOP Canada through his Ramos Peace and
Development Foundation (RPDEV) office. The Memorandum of Agreement
was signed and presented to Tony Meloto during “A Gala of Heroes”
night at the National Nikkei Heritage Center in Burnaby, British
Columbia last October 28, 2008.
It was not too long ago when our former President had his
introductory stint with Gawad Kalinga helping paint new low-cost
homes of fire victims in the Baseco Compund. Today, Mr. Ramos is a
full pledged honorary Ambassador of Goodwill for works of GK to help
alleviate poverty in the Philippines. In his recently concluded
visit in the Canadian cities of Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver from
October 22 to 30, 2008, ANCOP Canada estimates at least $200,000 was
raised over-all, which will be enough to restore hope of 160
families through a GK home.
A great leader and a living hero, FVR boldly promoted the essence of
GK in line with his RPDEV’s “Caring,
Daring and Sharing” mantra. Mr. Ramos
emphasized how the spirit of volunteerism and the impulse to share
something with needy people satisfies a moral obligation consistent
with the Filipino spirit of “bayanihan”. He concluded his highly
successful fundraising visit with GK in Canada with an inspiring
message of hope instilling among Filipinos in Canada a deeper sense
of nation and of self-identity.
Once a Filipino, always a Filipino. Kayang-Kaya kung Sama-Sama.

Walk 2008 is a nationwide success
More than a thousand supporters of
Gawad Kalinga from across Canada and the US put on their running
shoes to walk for the poor last September 6. From coast to coast
they walked for a great cause and shared their time and treasure for
the poorest of the poor. Braving the elements they marched with
jubilant spirits to show their love an support for the GK way. Thank
you to everyone who participated and to our donors and friends who
shared their gifts for the less fortunate.
